What type of activities do you do in Lakeway Pony Club?

The Lakeway Pony Club members participate in a number of fun and diverse activities--from competitions in eventing, dressage, games, and polocrosse to trail rides, overnight camping trips, foxhunting, horse camp and mounted birthday parties!  Many of the members get together informally and regularly to train horses or just go trail riding. Additionally, many of the parents in the club like to participate in the mounted activities, too!

During the winter, the club's focus shifts slightly to more "unmounted" meetings where members learn horse management skills and prepare for "Quiz," a knowledge-based competition.

Why are all the horses called "ponies"?

The term "pony" is a general term for horses used in the United Kingdom, where Pony Club originated.  We have "ponies" in our local club that range in height from 12:2 hands to 17:2 hands!

What does the membership fee cover?

The membership fee is a great value! It covers national, regional, and local dues and helps maintain the organizational structure required to provide educational activities for PC members. It also covers insurance for local Pony Club leaders--which makes it possible for them to host and lead various activities.

The national organization is also dedicated to providing a wide variety of activities and competitions to build character, horsemanship, sportsmanship, and leadership skills in young people. To do this, the national organization maintains an informational website with downloadable forms for health records, etc. At the regional and local levels, the dues cover administrative costs. The leaders and other parents donate their time and expertise. While not guaranteed, in many cases Lakeway Pony Club parents generously provide use of their private farms, horses, and even instruction to help other members of the club.
